Terms & Conditions
These terms govern your use of the games, apps, and websites made by Matlock Ghost Emporium (“MGE”, “we”), Bonsall, Derbyshire, United Kingdom — hello@matlockghostemporium.com (together, our “services”). By creating an account or making a purchase in any of our services you accept them.
1. Our services
We make games and interactive experiences — some played entirely on your device, some played out in the real world at real locations. Where an individual game has its own rules or details (player limits, availability windows, session rules), those are shown in that game before you buy or play, and form part of these terms for that game.
2. Your account
Keep your login details safe — you're responsible for activity on your account. Give us accurate information, and tell us if you think your account has been compromised. You must be an adult to create an account; younger players take part through and under the supervision of an adult account holder.
3. Purchases, availability and refunds
- Some services sell tickets, entry, or other one-off purchases. Prices are shown before you buy; payment is taken once, by Stripe, at purchase. Purchases are personal to your account and non-transferable unless the game says otherwise.
- Some experiences run within date windows, as one-time events, or as play once content that a single account can complete one time. Any such limits are shown before purchase.
- If we cancel or withdraw something you hold an unused purchase for, we'll refund it.
- If something went wrong on our side — a purchase was unusable through fault of ours — contact us within 14 days and we'll put it right or refund you.
- Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
4. Real-world play and safety — please read this one
Where a game involves real-world play, it happens in real places: roads, rivers, weather, uneven ground, darkness.
- Stay aware of your surroundings at all times. Nothing in any of our games is worth stepping into a road for — the game will wait.
- Keep to pavements, footpaths, and publicly accessible places. Never enter private property, railways, or waterways in pursuit of gameplay.
- Children must be supervised by an adult throughout.
- You take part at your own risk and are responsible for your own safety and that of your party. Judge conditions for yourself — if a location feels unsafe, skip it and contact us.
5. Fair play
Don't spoof your location, tamper with our apps, share puzzle answers publicly, or interfere with other players' games. We may remove leaderboard entries we reasonably believe were not fairly achieved, and may suspend accounts that abuse our services or our staff.
6. Our content
Our apps, stories, characters, artwork, and audio are ours (or licensed to us) and protected by intellectual property law. We grant you a personal, non-commercial licence to use them as part of playing. Map data and other third-party content are provided under their own terms.
7. Service availability
We work hard to keep our services running, but we can't promise uninterrupted service — GPS accuracy varies, phone batteries die, and networks drop. We may update, alter, or retire games and features over time.
8. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Otherwise, our total liability to you in connection with a purchase is limited to the amount you paid for it, and we are not liable for losses that were not a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms.
9. General
We may update these terms; the date above shows the current version, and significant changes will be flagged in our apps. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction — though if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings there.
